Nusantara International Airport, also known as IKN VVIP Airport, is an airport built to serve air transportation needs in the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN), East Kalimantan. This airport is approximately 15 kilometers from the IKN Core Government Center Area (KIPP), with a travel time of approximately 20 minutes.
Development and Funding
Construction of the airport will begin on November 1, 2023, with the laying of the first stone by President Joko Widodo. This project is being carried out by the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), with a total budget of IDR 4.2 trillion.
Design and Architecture
The airport design carries the concept of being environmentally friendly and the local wisdom of Kalimantan. The airport terminal was designed by architects Yori Antar, Adi Purnomo (Mamo), and Reza Wahjudi (Bobos), by adopting cultural elements such as the Longhouse, Hornbill, and curved line motifs typical of Kalimantan.
Technical Specifications
This airport is built on 347 hectares of land, with the following facilities:
- The runway is 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide, capable of serving large-bodied aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A380.
- Taxiway A and B each measure 180 x 30 meters.
- Apron covering 102,150 meters
- VVIP terminal covering an area of 2,000 square meters and VIP terminal covering an area of 5,000 square meters.
Development Status
As of April 2025, the physical construction of the airport has been completed, both on the air and land sides. This airport has received the ICAO code: WALK, but does not yet have an IATA code.
