Al Azhar Islamic School Summarecon Nusantara is an integrated Islamic educational institution currently being built in the Core Area of the Government Center (KIPP) of Nusantara (IKN), Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan. This project is the result of a collaboration between PT Summarecon Agung Tbk. and the Al Azhar Islamic Boarding School Foundation (YPI), with the aim of providing quality education that integrates Islamic values and modern technology.
Location and Land Area
This school is built on 2.9 hectares of land located in the Public Service Facilities Sub Zone (SPU) 1 KIPP IKN. This location was chosen to support accessibility and integration with other public facilities in the new capital city.
History and Development Process
Groundbreaking
The groundbreaking was carried out on June 4, 2024 by President Joko Widodo. This event marked the start of the construction of educational facilities that are expected to support the growth of the education sector in IKN.
Construction Schedule
The first phase of construction is planned to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, with the target of starting teaching and learning activities in the 2026/2027 academic year. The second phase of construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Design Concept and Facilities
Architecture and Environmentally Friendly Concept
The school building is designed with a stilt house concept that carries the principle of sustainability. This design integrates natural elements such as stone, water, and trees to create a comfortable and energy-efficient learning environment.
Educational Facilities
This school will provide educational levels from Elementary School (SD), Junior High School (SMP), to Senior High School (SMA). Supporting facilities include laboratories, multipurpose rooms, sports facilities, and a mosque that can also be used by the general public.
Investment and Developer
This project is the result of an investment of IDR 200 billion by PT Summarecon Agung Tbk., in collaboration with the Al Azhar Islamic Boarding School Foundation. The construction of this school is part of Summarecon's commitment to supporting the development of the IKN, especially in the education sector.
Current Status
As of May 2025, the construction of Al Azhar Islamic School Summarecon Nusantara is still awaiting the completion of infrastructure and accessibility being worked on by the IKN Authority. The developer stated that construction will begin immediately after the supporting infrastructure is completed.
