The Nusantara Presidential Palace Complex is located in 1A in the Core Governmental Area (KIPP). The total area is over 100 hectares. The complex consists of several buildings. The two largest buildings are the Garuda Palace and the State Palace. About 50 hectares are allocated for palace buildings and supporting facilities, and another 50 hectares for the National Botanical Garden. Its strategic location, directly opposite Plaza Serimoni and Bukit Bendera, makes it the centerpiece of Nusantara's spatial plan. The complex is designed as a smart and environmentally friendly building, with 92% of the total area reserved for green open space.
Architecture and design
The Garuda Palace is based on the design of I Nyoman Nuarta, an Indonesian sculptor and artist. The design depicts a Garuda spreading its wings. This building serves as the President's office and is 77 meters high with a wingspan of 177 meters. In addition, there are over 4,650 copper sheets, each depicting Garuda. This design is not only culturally symbolic, but also fits in perfectly with the landscape and the elements of the surrounding area.
Facilities and objects of the complex
The complex includes several important facilities, including:
Garuda Palace: Presidential office and the main symbol of the complex.
National Palace: Venue for state ceremonies.
Office of the Presidential Secretariat: Administrative center of the president.
Office of the Presidential Special Staff: Work space for the special staff of the president.
Presidential Pavilion: Space for meetings and residence of the president.
State Guest House: Accommodation for state guests.
Mess Paspampres: Residence of the Presidential Security Forces.
Mosque: Place of worship for the public and staff.
Botanical Garden: 50-hectare national botanical garden.
Ancillary buildings: Includes security checkpoints and logistics facilities.
Ceremonial Square
The heart of the complex is the Ceremonial Square, a monumental square used for state ceremonies such as Independence Day on August 17. The square directly faces the National Palace and Garuda Palace and is surrounded by gardens and ceremonial corridors. The square is designed to accommodate important guests, parades of the guard of honor, and important national ceremonial activities. The first ceremony held at the square was the 79th Independence Day commemoration on August 17, 2024, marking the inauguration of the complex.
Contractors and construction process
Construction of the complex began in late January 2023 without a foundation stone laying ceremony. PT Pembangunan Perumahan (Persero) Tbk is responsible for the construction of the State Palace and the Ceremonial Field, with a contract value of approximately IDR 1.34 trillion. Meanwhile, PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk is working on the Presidential Secretariat Building and other supporting buildings, with a contract value of approximately IDR 1.35 trillion.
Completion and management
The construction of the Presidential Palace Complex was completed as scheduled in July 2024. The complex was first used during the celebration of Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day on August 17, 2024. Since early 2025, the management of the complex has been officially transferred to the Ministry of State Secretariat (Setneg).
Symbol of national transformation
The construction of the Presidential Palace Complex in the IKN is a strategic move to create a government center that reflects national identity and independence. With a design that combines cultural values and modern technology, this complex is expected to become a new icon of Indonesia.
