History and Development
The groundbreaking for the construction of the BI head office in IKN was carried out on November 2, 2023 by President Joko Widodo, accompanied by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo. This development marks the beginning of the process of moving the BI head office from Jakarta to IKN, as mandated in Law No. 3 of 2022 concerning the National Capital City and Presidential Regulation No. 63 of 2022 concerning the Details of the Master Plan for the Indonesian Capital City.
Design and Architecture
The design of the BI head office building in IKN carries the concept of "Garuda Vittaraksha Rupa," which means "guardian of wealth." The shape of the building resembles a Garuda bird, reflecting BI's role as the guardian of national economic stability. This design also adopts the principles of smart and green buildings, and combines local cultural values that are in line with IKN's vision as a smart forest city.
Development Stages
The construction of the BI head office in IKN is planned in several stages:
Phase 1 (2023–2024): Construction of the main building and supporting infrastructure.
Phase 2 (2024–2027): Development of additional facilities and improvement of infrastructure.
Phase 3 (2027–2031): Completion of the entire complex and full operation.
The first phase of development is targeted for completion in 2024.
Size and Facilities
The BI head office in IKN is built on an area of 7.41 hectares. The complex will include a five-story main building, supporting facilities such as meeting rooms, auditoriums, data centers, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure. In addition, waste and sewage processing facilities will be built to support the principle of sustainability.
Contractors and Implementation
Bank Indonesia has conducted a tender for the procurement of design and build contractors for the construction of the first phase of the office complex. The scope of work includes the construction of the main building, supporting infrastructure, and other facilities needed for the operation of the BI head office in the IKN.
Current Status
To date, the construction of the BI head office in the IKN is still ongoing according to the predetermined schedule. This development is expected to increase public, business, and investor confidence in the readiness of the IKN as the new center of government and economy in Indonesia.
