The Nusantara Intercultural School (NIS) is the first international school in the Indonesian capital (IKN), East Kalimantan. This school is supported by the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) Foundation, an international special education institution established in 1951.
History and Development
Groundbreaking
The groundbreaking for the construction of NIS was carried out on November 1, 2023 by President Joko Widodo. The event was also attended by a number of high-ranking officials, including the Head of the IKN Authority, Bambang Susantono, and the Chairman of the JIS Foundation Board, Phill Rickard.
Location and Area
NIS was built on 1,158 hectares of land in the IKN area. This development is part of the government's efforts to provide international standard education facilities in Indonesia's new capital city.
Management
NIS is managed by the Jakarta Intercultural School Foundation, which has more than 70 years of experience in the field of international education in Indonesia.
Goals and Expectations
The presence of NIS is expected to answer the need for quality education for the community who will live in the IKN, including government employees and their families. President Joko Widodo stated that the construction of this school shows the government's commitment to providing international standard supporting facilities in the IKN.
