What facilities are actually available right now?
More complete than many people expect. Toilets, a prayer room, free drinking water, a range of food and drink, and a health post with a medical team and ambulance are now available at Rest Area IKN and around Plaza Seremoni. For fuel, still fill up before leaving Balikpapan or Samarinda.
Rest Area IKN and the area around Plaza Seremoni (including Gedung Kemenko 1) now offer noticeably more than when visits first opened in 2024. You'll find public toilets, a prayer room and ablution area, free drinking water, and somewhere to sit and charge your phone after the trip.
Food and drink
Around Plaza Seremoni, there's now a choice of restaurants, cafes (including an Excelso outlet), a minimarket, and UMKM food stalls selling snacks and drinks. You no longer need to bring every bit of your own food like early visitors did, though the Rest Area's toilets are still described as a facility that's being developed, so bringing your own tissue doesn't hurt.
Medical care
There's a health post with a standing medical team and ambulance, both at Rest Area IKN and in the Kemenko 1/Plaza Seremoni area. For more serious emergencies, Rumah Sakit Hermina Nusantara and Rumah Sakit Mayapada Nusantara serve as referral hospitals.
What you should still bring yourself
We didn't find any information about a fuel station actually operating inside the visitor area itself, so filling up before leaving Balikpapan or Samarinda is still the safe move.
Bring your own tissue just in case, and fill up on fuel before leaving Balikpapan or Samarinda. For food, drink, and minor medical needs, you can now rely on the area around Plaza Seremoni.
