Just outside Nusantara's built-up core, in Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara, sits one of Borneo's most important wildlife rehabilitation centers. Samboja Lestari is run by the Borneo Orang Utan Survival Foundation (BOS) across roughly 1,850 hectares of restored forest, and it exists for one purpose: giving orangutans, sun bears, and other rescued or displaced Bornean wildlife somewhere to recover, and, where possible, somewhere to eventually return to the wild. It sits inside the same network of protected areas and wildlife corridors that Nusantara's own master plan is designed to connect and expand, not isolate.
