Do I need a permit?
Not a formal permit, but registration through the IKNOW app is required for all visitors, individual or group.
You do not need a permit in the traditional sense, no formal document to apply for weeks in advance, no fee to pay for entry itself. What you do need is registration through the government's official IKNOW app, and this applies to everyone, not just organized groups.
How the process works
Register your visit through the IKNOW app before you travel. When you arrive, head to the designated meeting point, typically the IKN Rest Area or Simpang Trunen. Show your registration confirmation to officials there. You will then be accompanied by a liaison officer and travel by electric bus into the Government Center Core Area, stopping at Plaza Seremoni Barat, from where you can explore both Plaza Seremoni to the east and Taman Kusuma Bangsa to the west.
Why this exists
This structured process exists because IKN is still an active construction site. Managing visitor flow through a set route, with a liaison officer and electric transport, keeps things safe and manageable while building work continues around the public areas.
A number worth knowing, with a caveat
When this visit program first launched, daily visitor numbers were capped at around 300 people. That was in 2024, and a lot has changed since then, so treat that figure as historical context rather than a current limit. Always check the IKNOW app for whatever the current cap and process happen to be.
One more thing
If you are joining a guided tour, your operator typically handles this registration for you as part of the booking. If you are visiting independently, plan to register a few days ahead rather than assuming same day registration will work, particularly on weekends or around holidays when demand is highest.
