Nusantara Botanical Garden is a botanical garden currently under construction in the Core Area of the Government Center (KIPP) of Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan. This project is part of an effort to make IKN an environmentally friendly and sustainable city. The construction of this botanical garden was inaugurated with the laying of the first stone by President Joko Widodo on June 4, 2024.
Area and Stages of Development
This botanical garden is planned to be built on an area of 211 hectares. The first stage of development focuses on orchid conservation, including the construction of an orchid house and orchid research center. Other planned supporting facilities include a Visitor Center, cafe, and UMKM corner.
Implementers and Funding Scheme
The construction of Nusantara Botanical Garden is being carried out by the Nusantara Consortium, which consists of several large Indonesian companies, including Agung Sedayu Group, Sinar Mas, Astra International, Salim Group, and others. This project is funded through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme and joint ventures between companies.
Functions and Objectives
Nusantara Botanical Garden is designed to have several main functions:
Conservation: To be a center for the preservation of biodiversity, especially endemic flora of Indonesia.
Education and Research: To provide facilities for scientific research and environmental education.
Recreation and Tourism: To be a tourist destination that offers learning and recreational experiences for visitors.
Integration with IKN
The presence of Nusantara Botanical Garden is expected to support the vision of IKN as a green and sustainable city. This botanical garden will function as the city's lungs and become an integral part of an environmentally friendly urban ecosystem.
